Africa-Press – Kenya. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has questioned the move by ODM to kick out ‘rebel’ MPs.
ODM’s National Executive Committee adopted the disciplinary committee’s recommendations and expelled five rebel MPs for “openly associating with and supporting activities of a rival political party”.
Gachagua was speaking on Friday at Masaita village in Londiani ward, Kericho county, during the funeral service of lawyer Vincent Kipkoech Mutai (Wakili), son of Kipkelion East MP Joseph Cherorot.
He said that ODM treats its members unequally.
“If Raila was genuine, why is he punishing MPs who have come to sit with President William Ruto to look for development and yet for him it’s for his family’s benefit. When he comes there is no problem,” he said.
Gachagua questioned the presence of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka at State House saying that he met Ruto and yet he was not chased.
“The other day we were in a meeting at night and Kalonzo came, he came in the dark why not during the day? Why was he not chased from Azimio, if the MPs who sat with Ruto are at fault, Kalonzo was there, why was he not chased,” Gachagua added.
ODM on Wednesday cracked the whip and expelled rebel four National Assembly members and Kisumu Senator To Ojienda for supporting the Kenya Kwanza administration.
The MPs are Elisha Ochieng’ Odhiambo (Gem), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo) and Phelix Odiwuor Kodhe (Lang’ata).
The party also revoked the nomination of four MCAs at the Kisumu County Assembly for gross misconduct.
The party also fined Nairobi Woman Rep Esther Passaris Sh250,000 for voting for the Finance Act, 2023 ( now an Act) and ordered her to make a written apology.
Uriri MP Mark Nyamita and his Rongo counterpart were also fined Sh1 million each for defying the party and working with Kenya Kwanza.
They were directed to pay the fines within 60 days.
