Gachagua to Ruto: Don't leave me to the mercy of cartels

Africa-Press – Kenya. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pleaded with his boss William Ruto not to abandon him when he begins the war on cartels. The DP said on Monday that the task the President has given him to reform the coffee and tea sectors is ‘dangerous and vicious’.

“It is not an easy venture, the cartels are ruthless and vicious,” Gachagua said during a funeral in Gatundu South.

Gachagua, who said he is determined to turnaround the coffee and tea sectors, said he is up to the task but would plead for the president’s protection.

“Usikae mbali sana ndo tukipiga nduru usituache(please stay close so that when we raise alarm you don’t abandon us)” he said. The DP said the cartels that have for many years exploited farmers will soon have nowhere to hide. The President appointed Gachagua to lead the reforms in both the tea and coffee sectors as part of the Kenya Kwanza’s economic transformation.
