Africa-Press – Kenya. George Wanga has been formally appointed the new Managing Director of the Kenya Literature Bureau, effective from December 11, 2025, the state-owned publisher has announced.

Wanga formerly served as the non-executive chairperson of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).

In a press statement dated December 16 but released on December 19, KLB said Wanga takes over following the conclusion of the tenure of Paul Kibet, who had been serving in an acting capacity.

The bureau expressed appreciation to Kibet for what it described as dedicated service and stewardship that ensured continuity in the execution of KLB’s mandate during the transition period.

According to the statement, the appointment followed the prescribed recruitment, vetting and approval processes, underscoring the institution’s commitment to strengthening leadership and enhancing institutional efficiency.

KLB said Wanga brings extensive experience in public administration, strategic management and educational publishing, qualities the bureau expects will support its ongoing reforms and modernisation initiatives.

“As Managing Director, Mr Wanga will be responsible for the overall administration of the Bureau and the implementation of policies and programmes aimed at advancing KLB’s mission,” the statement read in part.

The mission, KLB noted, centres on the development, publishing and dissemination of high-quality educational and general reading materials to support Kenya’s national development agenda.

KLB is a long-established public institution with a central role in educational publishing and printing in Kenya.

The agency is home to some of the world’s top authors, researchers and experts and prides itself on providing high-quality educational publications.

Over the years, it has been tasked with producing curriculum-aligned learning materials for schools while also supporting general readership through a wide range of publications like autobiographies, storybooks and e-books.

KLB publishes in different languages and also offers translation and high-end printing services.

The bureau operates from its head office and printing press in South C, Nairobi, and runs a sales and customer service centre in the city’s central business district.

In announcing the new appointment, the bureau reaffirmed its commitment to upholding high standards of service delivery and ensuring the continued availability of reliable learning resources for Kenyan learners, educators and institutions.

It said the leadership transition is part of broader efforts to strengthen internal systems and improve efficiency as the education sector continues to evolve.

The statement emphasised continuity in policy implementation under the new Managing Director.

Wanga is expected to steer the institution as it pursues reforms aligned with national education priorities and responds to emerging demands in publishing and learning materials.
