Global inflation expectations rise amid US tariff policy, Ifo Institute reports

Africa-Press – Kenya. Global inflation expectations have edged upward due to the impact of US tariff policies, according to a report released Wednesday by Germany’s Ifo Institute.

A survey, conducted by the institute with a total of 1,489 economic experts from 131 countries, showed that the annual inflation rate worldwide will reach 4% this year, then 3.9% in 2026, and 3.8% in 2028.

“In Germany, inflation for this year is expected to reach 2.4%, in Austria 2.9%, and in Switzerland 0.9%,” the institute said.

The institute said inflation expectations have risen, particularly in North America.

Niklas Potrafke, a researcher at the institute, said: “Compared to the previous quarter, inflation expectations have risen slightly.

“America’s tariff policy is driving inflation expectations in many countries. In Germany, they are also influenced by the new public debt.”
