Africa-Press – Kenya. The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) on Wednesday, April 14, announced that the fuel prices remained unchanged for the next 30 days.
The new prices will be in force from Thursday, April 15, to Friday, May 14, meaning that motorists will pay the same price for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene.
This means that Super Petrol will retail at Kshs.122.81, Diesel at Kshs.107.66 and Kerosene at Kshs.97.85 in Nairobi.
In Mombasa, Super Petrol will retail at Ksh120.41, Ksh105.27 for Diesel and Ksh95.46 for Kerosene. In Eldoret, the fuel prices will see Super Petrol go for Ksh123.36 Diesel for Ksh108.46 and Kerosene for Ksh98.68.
In Kisumu, the fuel prices are as follows: Super Petrol will retail at Ksh 123.36, Diesel will go for Ksh 108.46 whereas Kerosene will be Ksh 98.68.
According to the authority, the prices are inclusive of the 8% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2018 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation was done according to Legal Notice 194 of 2020.
EPRA noted that imported fuel prices had risen in the past 30 days.
“The average landed cost of imported Super Petrol increased by 9.27% from US$ 449.82 per cubic metre in February 2021 to US$ 491.50 per cubic metre in March 2021; Diesel increased by 4.77% from US $ 423.95 per cubic metre to US444.17 per cubic metre and Kerosene increased by 7.29% from US$ 393.23 per cubic metre to US 421.90 per cubic metre,” read part of the statement by EPRA.
Kenyans in the past 30 days have lamented to the Authority over the cost of the fuel prices urging the Government of the day to remedy the high cost of living.
Initially, the prices review in March had risen by an average margin of six per cent leading to motorists having to dig deeper into their pockets in order to pay for fuel.
This led to unions such as the Central Organization of Trade Union (COTU) appealing to President Uhuru Kenyatta to review the fuel prices in a bid to cushion mwananchi from an economic crisis.
