Here's what will salvage bipartisan talks, Kalonzo advises Ruto

Africa-Press – Kenya. Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has urged President William Ruto to meet the bipartisan leaders and reach a consensus before the expiry of their seven-day ultimatum on Tuesday.

Kalonzo said that is the only approach the two sides can reach an agreement and avert resumption of Azimio’s weekly protests. “My younger brother Ruto, get in touch with Otiende Amollo and George Murugara, let the two of them sit, talk to them, we must have a solution,” he said.

Kalonzo said by him meeting with only the team leaders, an agrement can easily be reached particularly on opening of IEBC servers for scrutiny of poll results.

“Don’t underestimate the efforts of Kenyans in getting justice. Put the interest of Kenyans before yours, let the people cross the Red Sea,” he said.

“You will be a great leader if you listen to your senior brother,” Kalonzo said. The Wiper leader spoke on Sunday during a church service at Imara Daima in Nairobi. He was accompanied by Narc Kenya leader and fellow Azimio co-principal Martha Karua and Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah.

Kalonzo’s advise to the President comes days after Azimio gave Kenya Kwanza a six-day ultimatum to provisionally yield to the four substantive issues they have raised or consider the talks dead.

Azimio said the Kenya Kwanza camp must accept their demands on an interim basis in line with provisions of the framework agreement that set up the talks or the process will stand dissolved. The statement was released after the Azimio leadership received a progress report on the talks by a delegation to the bipartisan talks.

“The meeting resolved and has given authority to our team in the bipartisan talks to issue a notice of dissolution of the talks in the event Kenya Kwanza will not publicly accede to the interim measures in the next six days in line with the provisions of the framework agreement,” Azimio stated.

Azimio said if upon the expiry of the ultimatum the Kenya Kwanza side will not have responded, they will hold a parliamentary group meeting on Tuesday at 2pm and give the way forward.

The four substantive issues which have led to the stalling of the talks are are lowering the cost of living, auditing of IEBC election servers, restructuring and reconstitution of IEBC and non-interference of Azimio parties by the Kenya Kwanza government for purposes of killing or talking over the parties. Kalonzo said these are the points of reference and the irreducible minimums the talks must be anchored on for progress to be met.
