Africa-Press – Kenya. Kenya’s team need to prepare properly if they are to make a mark in international 3×3 events, Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) vice chairman Hilmi Ali has observed.

Speaking after the Kenya women’s performance in the FIBA 3×3 Nations League Final 2022 in Constanta, Romania, Hilmi said the future is bright.

He revealed that he had talks with coaches and federation officials during the show on how to move forward.

“What we have learned out there is that preparations are key and that players must be Identified earlier,” he said.

Kenya bowed out of the global show after going down 22-5 to Lithuania and 17-6 to Japan in their Pool ‘D’ matches.

The future, he maintained, is bright but the road map must be laid now as Kenya has athletism and only needs player ability.

He said going forward, there is a need to have different players who will be committed to 3×3 games and be involved in the proposed league circuit.

“All those successful teams have curriculum-based training and this is what we propose to have within a short time.

“Centres will be identified in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu and Nakuru and this should help spur the game.

“So far, we are doing well in Africa but we will improve considerably if we separate 3×3 and 5×5 in the future.”

He disclosed that next on the national team calendar is the Africa Nations Cup slated for Morocco later in the year.
