Africa-Press – Kenya. Homa Bay Deputy Governor Joseph Magwanga now claims that his boss, Homa bay Governor Gladys Wanga, is plotting an impeachment motion against him. This comes as the rift within the Homa Bay County leadership widens after the Kasipul by-elections.
Magwanga, in an interview with NTV on December 5, 2025, revealed that the governor had sponsored an impeachment motion at the Homa Bay County Assembly to kick him out, adding that he was ready for the impeachment motion against him.
“They want to impeach me, and I am calling upon them to bring it, and we shall see how it will actually end,” he said.
Magwanga further claimed that if the impeachment motion against him fails, he will initiate a counter-impeachment motion against Governor Wanga. “Should it fail, I will also initiate mine, because she knows me and I know her,” Magwanga said.
Magwanga claimed that the fallout between him and Governor Wanga started before the Kasipul by-elections, where Magwanga supported Independent Candidate Philip Aroko instead of supporting the ODM candidate Boyd Were.
Magwanga says he started seeing the red flags during the devolution conference hosted in Homa bay in August, where he claims his office was disrespected.
“You can remember when we were having DevCon, the Governor failed to recognize me but recognized her husband and the Majority Leader; that means that I have no role in the County Government,” Magwanga claimed.
After the by-elections, Wanga made a cabinet reshuffle that saw the deputy governor stripped of his position as the CECM of the Agriculture Department.
Magwanga also claims that he has been denied access to his office as the deputy governor. He says that his office was locked on December 1, 2025, and blocked by goons. Governor Wanga has received criticism for her actions against her deputy, with Luo elders in the county also being on her neck.
