I am ready for dialogue- Raila assures Ruto

Africa-Press – Kenya. Azimio Coalition party leader Raila Odinga has said he is ready for dialogue with President William Ruto over issues they raised as grounds for their demonstrations countrywide.

Speaking in Capitol Hill on Sunday, Raila said they are ready to have talks with the government adding that will only happen without coercion.

“We are ready to engage and we will engage without any form of corruption and this process should start as early as tomorrow.”

Ruto has said the country has suffered massively as a result of Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance countrywide demonstrations.

The President who addressed Kenyans from State House took stock of the happenings in the country in the last two weeks saying there have been grave acts of lawlessness, widespread violence, looting and invasion of private property.

He noted that these were done by persons taking advantage of political demonstrations called by the opposition.

The President said during this period, three people have been killed including a police officer, and 400 others injured amongst them 60 officers while a police vehicle was burnt in Kawangware.

He said the country’s economy has also suffered as a result of this and its image dented in the league of modern nations at stake.

“Our security agencies have endeavoured to do everything within the law to protect all the citizens. Nevertheless, the violence, chaos and disorder continue to distract our focus as a nation on economic transformation.”

He said the country’s economy has been hard hit at a time when his administration is doing everything possible to salvage the economy from the deep hole where we found it.

“My administration has instituted solid measures and policies to attract investors and through this create an opportunity for our young people to realize their potential among many other issues we are doing as a government.”

He, therefore, noted that they cannot allow these efforts to be derailed by acts of violence, chaos and anarchy.

“We all have an obligation to respect the Constitution of Kenya which also includes the responsibility of institutions established and created by the Constitution.”
