Africa-Press – Kenya. Lawyer Danstan Omari has read malice in the summons issued by the DCI for him to appear for questioning over the alleged police raid at former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i’s home.

The summon was issued on Tuesday by detective Michael Sang.

“I have reason to believe that you, Danstan Omari an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, is connected to the offence or has information which can assist me in my investigations,” the summons read in part.

Accusations against the lawyer include the publication of false information in regard to the alleged invasion at the Karen residence on the night of February 8.

Omari is required to appear at the DCI headquarters for questioning on Wednesday at 9.30 am.

The lawyer, however, presented himself at the DCI offices on Tuesday and briefed the media on the issue.

He said he will honour the summons even as he feels he is being unfairly targeted for executing his role as a lawyer.

“I took an oath to defend my clients within the law. I took up the matter for the CS Matiang’i as my client,” he said.

“When I was defending Tangatanga, and when I was defending UDA members, it was not a crime but now it’s a crime when I’m defending Azimio members in parliament,” he said.

The lawyer said he has a track record where he has previously defended the police against accusations of accesses, sometimes on cases that few lawyers would offer to handle.

The vocal lawyer said among those on his list of police clients are officers of the disbanded SSU who were accused of extrajudicial killings.

“I defended them against a regime that called them killers, that called them murderers. Everybody got scared to defend the police, I stood up,” he said.

Omari said he will honour the summons and avail himself for questioning Wednesday morning but said tables may turn in future and the same officers may need his services.

“The only constant factor is that lawyers will never refuse to represent a client because of politics, so I will be here,” he said.
