I’m ready to serve Kenyans, Mudavadi says on new roles

Africa-Press – Kenya. Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has said his office is ready to serve and deliver to Kenyans under the mandate assigned to it by President William Ruto.

Mudavadi said Kenyans want the change they were promised by the Kenya Kwanza team, and it’s time to walk the talk and ensure efficient, timely and consistent results are achieved without delay.

“We wrapped up the retreat Sunday with each one of us carrying a clear package of deliverables home. We have to deliver the Kenya Kwanza plan. We have to revamp the economy,” he said.

President William Ruto during last week’s Cabinet retreat clarified that the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary will among other duties be the liaison between Parliament and the Executive.

This means that Mudavadi will superintendent the national legislative agenda for Kenya Kwanza, with the help of the State Department on Parliamentary affairs headed by Principal Secretary Aurelia Rono.

President Ruto during the retreat said Mudavadi’s office will play a very critical role in overseeing the relationship between the Executive and the Legislature, and will also help the Executive prepare responses to questions in Parliament when CSs are called upon to do so.

“I take the directive by the President very seriously and soon I will begin engaging Parliament on crucial areas that will need the collaboration between the Executive and the Legislature,” he said.

Mudavadi who gave his keynote address on Friday said the time has come for the leadership to prove to the citizens that their votes were not votes in vain.

He said leaders must stop being selfish and turn their energies towards liberating this country for the betterment of all citizens for there is no dignity in poverty.

“We must think and think deeply and persistently on how to make Kenya wealthy; how to make the citizens wealthy, and most importantly by showing how to do it. Every cent from the public coffers should be utilized prudently for the service or project entailed. Wastages and shortcuts will not be tolerated at all by my office,” he said.

On Monday, the President in an Executive Order No.1 of 2023 said Mudavadi will handle the role above supervising the technical monitoring and evaluation of government policies, programmes and projects.

He will work closely with the Office of the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service-the convener of the Principal Secretaries Committees— hence, a direct link to State House.

By leading the Principal Secretaries’ Committee, Mudavadi will be at the centre of coordinating government work, as PSs are essentially the people who run ministries on a day-to-day basis.

Principal secretaries, by being accounting officers, have a big say on projects given priority and also align budgets with priorities.

Mudavadi will also oversee the implementation of national government policies and programmes in liaison with the Interior and National Administration ministry.

He will also oversee the operations of the state corporations as well as spearhead the delivery of government services.
