Inaugural Premier 7-a-side League kicks off on Sunday

Africa-Press – Kenya. The first edition of the Kenya Premier 7-a-side League — the Nairobi Ballerz League — kicks off on Sunday at Kilimani Primary grounds.

The league features 16 teams, split into two pools — ‘Mashariki’ (East) and ‘Magharibi’ (West). Each matchday will host eight matches (four per pool), with games lasting 50 minutes.

A total of 120 matches will be played across 14 matchdays, including 112 group-stage games, four quarter-finals, two semi-finals, a third-place playoff and the final, scheduled for June 1, 2026.

The top four teams in each pool will advance to the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, the bottom two teams in each pool will be relegated, making way for four new sides to join next season through a qualifying mini-tournament.

A total prize purse of Sh300,000 is up for grabs, with the champions taking home Sh150,000, runners-up Sh90,000 and third place Sh60,000. Moka Gadgets Accessories will sponsor the man-of-the-match award for each fixture.

Nairobi Ballerz League co-founder Fred Mushila revealed that all matches will be streamed live on YouTube, TikTok and Facebook.

“This will be a global event. We shall livestream all matches so that Kenyans can follow the action wherever they are and enjoy every pass, goal and celebration,” Mushila said.

“This is a movement that will nurture talent, promote sportsmanship and grow football culture in the region.”

Shawa FC coach Ombiro Bobby expressed optimism ahead of their campaign, hoping his side can go the distance.

“We’ve been training three times a week and are prepared to start strong,” he said.

“We’ve consistently reached the semi-finals in past tournaments. Our stats show steady improvement and we believe we’re ready to challenge for the cup.”
