Itumbi to Share Salary With Comedian Kafengo

Africa-Press – Kenya. Just days after offering a government job to Kafengo during his friend’s, the late KK Mwenyewe’s, memorial, the Head of Creative Economy, Dennis Itumbi, has met the comedian to formalise the deal.

While sharing images from the meeting, Itumbi revealed that Kafengo and his videographer, Mike, would be teaming up with Itumbi’s team to “build new platforms.”

However, Itumbi emphasised that the duo would continue creating their content independently and would be compensated by a share of Itumbi’s salary.

“Just met Kafengo, a sharp mind and solid guy with a degree in Mathematics with Computing. Expect algebra-level precision as he tackles real challenges in the content creation world,” he stated.

“He’s teaming up with Mike (his videographer) to build new platforms with us. For now, we will share my salary, and they will still run their hustle independently.”

This comes just a few days after Itumbi made a promise to the regular collaborator of the late comedian that he would be offering him a job to appreciate his creativity.

He revealed that the job opportunity would be aimed at supporting and strengthening Kenya’s digital content creation landscape.

“Kafengo was working with KK Mwenyewe. Many people online have told me that we can work with Kafengo,” he said amid claps.

“I will work with him and give him a job so that he helps us address digital content creation matters. That’s not just a story; he will get a job starting Monday.”

The announcement was made despite a cold reception from attendees who opted to criticise the government despite Itumbi’s efforts to pay tribute and speak on government interventions in the digital economy space.

It was at the same event that the top State House official promised that the government would be intervening to ensure that Kenyan TikTok creators would get monetised.

KK Mwenyewe, a comedian who rose to prominence by imitating former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, passed on after a short illness while receiving treatment at Kiambu Level 5 on July 14.
