Africa-Press – Kenya. Kenya has acquired Sh56 billion grants and loans from Japan for construction of the Dongo Kundu Bypass project.
Trade CS Moses Kuria said the resettlement process of the project affected persons at the Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone will start.
“I was informed that the construction of the Dongo Kundu Bypass (Mombasa) is coming along well and is expected to be completed by March 2024. This road is crucial in opening up the Dongo Kundu Special Zone to investors,” he said.
“The Japanese government has given Kenya grants and loans worth Sh56 billion to ensure that this project is successful.”
He spoke at a meeting with Japanese Ambassador Ken Okaniwa on Wednesday.
Kuria said they had a discussion on the projects the Japanese government is cooperating with Kenya.
“I have also requested the Japanese government to support the Numerical Machining Complex that seeks to be the biggest engineering company in Kenya and targets 2000 SMEs. This in turn will create job opportunities for millions of Kenyans,” Kuria said.
He said that Trade and Investments PS Abubakar Hassan will form the Dongo Kundu Management Team that will handle and fast track all matters regarding SEZ.
