Africa-Press – Kenya. Members of County Assembly in Kakamega County have hit out at Mumias East MP Peter Salasya over a recent alleged attack on Malaha-Isongo-Makunga MCA Peter Walunya.

Majority leader Philip Maina has noted that the incident portrayed a sad state of security affairs for the more than 80 MCAs in Kakamega County.

“We want to tell MPs in general that MCAs have no war with them and they should respect us. Today our area chief has said we are safe here and I want him to escort me to town,” Maina said.

Maina was speaking during a church service at Believers Rival Mission Church in Butsotso East ward, Lurambi constituency.

Maina recalled an incident that took place in Khwisero constituency that led to a strenuous relationship between MPs and MCAs.

“We condemn that uncalled for action and for that reason; we will have a meeting tomorrow as MCAs to address the issue. MCAs have been elected, just like MPs the only difference is the area of jurisdiction,” Maina added.

In a viral clip, Salasya on Friday was seen reportedly slapping Walunya after an altercation where the MP asked Walunya to go back to his seat.

Residents at the funeral thereafter chased Salasya and his team and allegedly shattered his vehicle’s back windows.

“I Peter Salasya wishes to express sincere apology to the people of Mumias East and all Kenyans at large. My actions in the recent past have not been that of a role model or an example to the young men and women. Going forward I promise to control my anger and reaction. Ni shetani aki,” Salasya tweeted.

On Friday, Kakamega Deputy Speaker Ben Shitiabayi called out the lawmaker urging him to respect leaders as he urged MPs from Kakamega County to help in containing the situation.

“When you go to the national assembly tell MP Salasya to stop saying MCAs are mature. It is a bad habit that he keeps attacking and disrespecting both his seniors and juniors,” Shitiabayi said.
