Africa-Press – Kenya. Kayole Starlets FC are banking on their mid-season recruits to spark a strong second-leg surge in the Kenya Women’s Premier League, with club director Joshua Sakwa expressing confidence in the trio’s ability to lift the side into the top tier of the standings.
Currently seventh on the log, the Starlets have reinforced their squad with goalkeeper Sonia Wambui, striker Calta Nasambu and defender Naomi Nanjala — all products of the Safaricom Chapa Dimba development pipeline.
Speaking after a training session at Calvary Sports Grounds, Sakwa described the trio as “quality players” capable of adding both depth and balance as the campaign enters a decisive phase.
“I believe tournaments like Safaricom Chapa Dimba offer invaluable lessons when it comes to supporting, nurturing and showcasing grassroots talent,” said Sakwa.
He noted that the club now boasts at least five players with Chapa Dimba experience, a factor he believes will be crucial in maintaining consistency and competitiveness during the run-in.
With the second leg often shaping the title race and continental qualification spots, Sakwa emphasised the importance of squad depth and tactical discipline, particularly against established sides with settled cores.
He added that integrating the new signings swiftly into the team’s system remains a key priority.
Nanjala, who joins from Barcelona Ladies SC in Laikipia alongside Wambui and Nasambu, sees the move as a timely opportunity to translate her National Super League experience into top-flight impact.
“I am excited to join Kayole Starlets. It has always been my ambition to play in the Kenya Premier League after competing in the National Super League,” she said.
She credited the Chapa Dimba pathway for shaping her career, having featured in the national finals in Kisumu before earning a bootcamp stint in Huesca, Spain.
Wambui echoed similar sentiments, describing the move as a significant step towards her long-term ambition of competing at the highest level.
“Honestly, Chapa Dimba goes beyond a normal football tournament — it means a lot to young talents in this country,” she said, adding that she is ready to repay the club’s faith with strong performances between the posts.
The trio joins fellow Chapa Dimba alumni Eunice ‘Bobi’ Nabwoba and Praxedes Shivikhwa, forming a growing core that reflects the tournament’s expanding footprint.
