Africa-Press – Kenya. Kenya and Germany have strengthened their cooperation on migration and mobility after holding the first Joint Implementation Committee meeting under the Comprehensive Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement.
The meeting, held in Nairobi, brought together senior delegations from both countries and marked a key milestone in boosting legal migration, skills development, and economic ties.
In a joint communiqué, the two governments described the talks as a success, citing the growing trust between Nairobi and Berlin on migration matters.
Discussions focused on expanding legal pathways for work, education, and training, with special attention on helping young Kenyans benefit from opportunities available under Germany’s Skilled Immigration Act.
“To this end, language acquisition and targeted training are to be further intensified in order to give young Kenyans in particular, the opportunity to fulfill the criteria of the German Skilled Immigration Act,” the statement read.
As part of the agreement, Kenya and Germany confirmed that the second Kenya-German job fair will take place in Nairobi in October 2025, targeting skilled and qualified Kenyan professionals.
The two sides also agreed to strengthen collaboration between German small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and Kenyan workers to improve job matching and employment opportunities.
“To this end, the players on both sides will be networked even more closely, and attention will be paid to the high quality of cooperation,” the communiqué added.
The initiative is being driven by ministries from both governments, with plans to continue consultations beyond the inaugural session. A follow-up meeting will be held in Germany next year to review progress and set new priorities.
Kenya’s delegation was led by Roseline Njogu, Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, and Shadrack Mwadime, Principal Secretary for Labour and Skills Development.
Germany was represented by Ambassador to Kenya Sebastian Groth and Joachim Stamp, Special Commissioner for Migration Agreement.
