Africa-Press – Kenya. Former Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya has claimed that Kenya Kwanza leaders have destroyed the church through politics.
Speaking in Murang’a during a town hall meeting, Oparanya said the UDA team has brought politics to the church which prevents people from worshiping.
“Mumeona hao wameharibu mambo ya makanisa. Wameleta siasa kwa mambo ya makanisa. Sasa ata ukienda kwa kanisa hutaki kukaa huko. Kwa sababu kile wanaongea ni siasa,” Oparanya said.
(You’ve seen they have destroyed churches. They have mixed politics in church matters. When you to church you don’t feel like staying there because all they do is politic)
Oparanya said that Azimio leaders are fighting for Kenyans’ rights to prevent such acts.
He added that Kenya Kwanza are claiming that former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government looted public coffers since they have failed to do their work.
“Lakini ka sababu hawa hawajui kufanya kazi yao wanasema watu wa Uhuru walipora mali. Kama mnajua watu wa Uhuru walipora mali ni wakenya kwanini msipeleke wao kotini? Oparanya asked.
(Because they don’t know how to do their work, they are saying that Uhuru looted funds. If you know Uhuru’s allies who looted funds are Kenyans, why haven’t you taken them to court?)
Earlier in the day, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had told off critics saying Kenya Kwanza’s Christian faith will be on full display during their five year tenure.
He said that they will keep at it and not miss a single church service.
“I was reading the papers this morning and they were saying that this is our 28th church service since we came into office. I want to save them the task of counting. We will be in church for 52 Sundays per year for the next five years,” Gachagua said at a church service in Ruai.
