Kenya Railways Suspends 4 Train Services for 10 Days

Africa-PressKenya. The Kenya Railways Corporation on Wednesday, December 23 announced the suspension of four Nairobi Commuter Train services.

The Corporation revealed that it was scaling down its operations during the festive period with most of Nairobi residents travelling upcountry and various holiday destinations.

Kenya Railways issued a notice announcing the suspension of four rail services on the Nairobi Commuter Train for 10 days.

“We wish to notify our commuters that: The Nairobi Commuter Rail Services to Ruiru, Embakasi, Kikuyu and Syokiamu will be suspended from December 24th, 2020 till 3rd January 2021,” read the statement in part.

The Corporation assured its customers that the Nairobi Commuter Rail to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Express Service will not be affected.

The Madaraka Express Passengers Service and the commuter link train to and from the SGR Nairobi Terminus will also operate as usual.

The Nairobi to Nanyuki Rail Service will also not be affected by the scaling down of operations during the festive period.

Kenya Railways adjusted the Nairobi to Nanyuki Rail Service schedule to accommodate the increased demand by passengers travelling during this festive season.

The corporation announced that for the Christmas and New Year’s period, the train will run on December 24, 2020, to Nanyuki and return to Nairobi on December 27, 2020.

The Nanyuki train service has come as a relief to most travellers as the Ksh 200 price is substantially less than what matatus charge for the same destination.

The train service was suspended in 2005 but relaunched its operations on Friday, December 11, 2020, making a round trip weekly departing on Fridays and making a return on Sundays.
