Africa-Press – Kenya. The Kenya Roll Ball team will use November’s African Championships as a build-up for next year’s World Championships set for India in January.

At the same time, Kenya Roll Ball Federation treasurer Ephraim Waruhiu revealed that they are looking to host the junior championships at the Juja Preparatory School on October 29.

“We have the projected African Championships in Senegal this November before proceeding to the World Cup in January,” Waruhiu said.

Waruhiu also said the federation is hoping they will start hosting junior international championships in 2024 with an aim of nurturing young talent.

He said they have started introducing the sport in primary schools and have been in talks with the Ministry of Education to ensure their mission is successful.

He said they are planning national championships for the juniors in December but they are yet to decide on the dates.

“To ensure continuity in the sport, we have started doing rounds in primary schools. We are also planning for national junior championships in December…precise dates will be communicated,” he said.

Waruhiu said they are facing some challenges as far as equipment and finance are concerned. He narrated how clubs would miss national leagues due to a lack of transport.

“Facilitation in logistics during national leagues and inadequate equipment remains to be our greatest challenges,” he said.

He narrated how Kenya adopted the sport in 2010 and was granted the right to host the 2013 World Cup. At the moment, the women’s team is ranked second in the world while the men are fourth.
