Kenyan Football Plunged into Crisis after Shabana FC Vs Gor Mahia Clash Turns Violent

Africa-Press – Kenya. Kenyan football was thrown into turmoil on Sunday after a high-stakes Premier League clash between Shabana FC and Gor Mahia ended in chaos, leaving 66 supporters hospitalised in one of the worst incidents of fan violence in recent memory.

What was meant to be a thrilling contest between two passionate clubs at the heart of Kenya’s football culture turned into a nightmare as tensions in the stands spiralled out of control. According to eyewitnesses, the violence began late in the second half following a controversial refereeing decision that infuriated sections of the crowd. Heated exchanges quickly escalated, with rival fans hurling objects and clashing violently.

Security forces were overwhelmed as violent broke out across the stadium. Emergency medical teams rushed to evacuate the injured, including fans who reportedly suffered skull fractures and remain in critical condition. Others were treated for cuts, bruises, and trauma.

Both Shabana FC and Gor Mahia issued public appeals for calm and expressed sympathy for the victims. The match result was overshadowed entirely by the incident, prompting renewed calls for stricter stadium security protocols and better crowd control.

The Ministry of Sports has summoned key football stakeholders to an emergency meeting, as concerns mount over the safety of fans and the tarnished image of the domestic league. Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Hussein Mohammed also hinted at possible sanctions, including fines, stadium bans, or point deductions.
