Kepha hopes to turn around fortunes as Mwamba eye first win of campaign

Africa-Press – Kenya. Mwamba coach Peter Kepha will be hoping for a change of fortunes when the Kenya Cup League resumes next weekend.

Kepha’s charges have lost their three opening matches of the season but said it’s too early to press the panic button.

Kepha’s charges lost to Blak Bad 24-16 in their opening match and were then handed a 67-0 thrashing by Menengai Oilers in their second match before going down 40-10 to Quins.

It does not get any easier for Kulabu, who play former champions KCB when the league resumes on January 13 and champions Kabras a week later in Kakamega

Mwamba are 10th on the log with no points and Kepha said the short-term goal is to pick a win from the upcoming fixtures.

“I’m not looking at the league table right now. The most important thing is to oversee improvement on various facets of play and improve the general performance and wins will follow,” he added.

The tactician saw some slight improvement despite the 30-point loss to Quins before the Christmas break.

“There were a couple of good things we did in the match, which if we do consistently, will see us win matches and improve our league position,” he noted.

Kepha said they plan to be competitive against the top two sides—KCB and Kabras. “It will be a tough task playing the top two teams but the boys are fired up and will be aiming to go all out for a win.”

Elsewhere, Beldad Ogeta of Menengai Oilers and Derrick Ashiundu of Kabras are the top Kenya Cup try scorers following three matches with six tries each.

Festus Shiasi of KCB and Kabras skipper George Nyambua are placed second with five tries each. Ntabeni Dukisa of Kabras leads the point scorers table with 34 points with KCB’s Austin Sikutwa second with 30 points.

Quinto Ongo leads the KRU Championship scoring stats, having touched down a season leading 3 times and accumulating a total of 26 points.

The Impala winger is followed on the try scorers’ chart by Patrick Odongo (Daystar Falcons), Brian Ocheng (Impala) and Augustine Owino (Daystar Falcons) on 2 tries each.
