Africa-Press – Kenya. Eldas MP Adan Keynan has a word with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.Eldas MP Adan Keynan speaking on Sunday. Eldas MP Adan Keynan has urged former President Uhuru Kenyatta to tone down his political attacks and allow President William Ruto’s administration to deliver on its mandate without interference.
Keynan was speaking Sunday in Habaswein Town, Wajir South Constituency, Wajir County and in Daadab town, in Daadab constituency Garisa County in the company of the Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.
The lawmaker, who chairs the Northern Kenya Parliamentary Group, said it was regrettable that the former head of state had chosen to openly criticise his successor.
On Friday, Kenyatta accused the Kenya Kwanz a government of undermining the country’s progress through what he described as “untested experiments” that he said were hurting Kenyans.
Addressing the Jubilee Party Special National Delegates Conference at Ngong Racecourse, Nairobi, the former president argued that key achievements from his regime, including the Linda Mama programme, had been eroded.
“Today, many of the gains of the past have been eroded. Linda Mama and others have been replaced by new, untried and untested schemes. While we wait for these experiments to work, Kenyans suffer and our progress is dragged,” Kenyatta said. But Keynan hit back, saying it was time for Kenyatta to respect the presidency and enjoy retirement.
“My free advice to the former president is that he should treat his office with the respect that it deserves. Retirement, especially from the highest office in the land, comes with honour and dignity. It is therefore only right that he upholds the same respect for the presidency that was accorded to him during his tenure,” he said.
The long-serving MP, elected on a Jubilee ticket, said Kenyans had democratically chosen Ruto, and their will must be respected. He praised the current administration for what he described as meaningful development in the Northeastern region, citing ongoing infrastructure projects.
“In fact, we will soon give you an opportunity to take a vehicle and cross our region from Isiolo, Modogashe, Wajir all the way to Mandera to see for yourself the infrastructural development that is currently ongoing,” he said.
Keynan’s remarks come amid growing criticism of Kenyatta’s comments from pro-government leaders, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who have defended the Ruto administration while taking aim at the former president’s legacy.
