Kimani Ichung'wa is House majority leader - Wetang'ula

Africa-Press – Kenya. Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa is the majority leader while Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi is the minority leader.

Speaker Moses Wetang’ula announced this on Thursday.

Ichung’wa is from Kenya Kwanza Coalition while Wandayi is from Azimio la Umoja one Kenya Coalition.

Ichung’wa will be deputised by Kilifi North MP Owen Baya.

South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro will be the majority party whip while Marsabit Woman rep Naomi Jillo Waqo, the deputy majority whip.

On the Minority side, Wandayi will be deputised by Kathiani MP Robert Mbui .

Suna East MP Junet Mohammed was named the minority party whip, he is to be deputised by Sabina Chege.

Earlier, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula ruled that the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party has no elected member under its banner.

“If it were to be considered a political party, the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition party has no elected member in this house today as no elected member was elected under its banner,” he said.

Wetang’ula said what is clear from the constitution is that the leader of the majority party must lead either a party or a coalition of parties in the National Assembly.

“I invite the house to note my emphasis on the word either,” he said in a ruling on Thursday.

For this reason, he declared Kenya Kwanza Coalition as the majority party Coalition.
