Africa-Press – Kenya. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to mentor young leaders from the region.
Speaking in Yatta on Saturday, Kindiki said the younger politicians should not be viewed as enemies.
“I respect my brother Kalonzo Musyoka. He was our vice president under President Mwai Kibaki, and someone who has reached that level deserves nothing but respect,” he said.
“What I want to ask from him is that the same way God has helped him get to that level, he should start looking for younger leaders from this region and nurture them so that they can have the ability to take the community and the country further,” he added.
Kindiki described Kalonzo as a respected leader and urged him to continue playing a constructive role in the country’s politics.
The Deputy President has been on a week-long tour of the region, which included economic empowerment forums.
He said he would continue visiting different parts of the country to explain government programs, including those already underway and others set to be rolled out.
“We need to tell the people of Kenya what the government is doing. We are not campaigning now. It is a good time to deliver, and when campaign time comes, everybody will produce their track record,” Kindiki said.
He was accompanied by MPs Vincent Musyoka (Mwala), Joshua Mwalyo (Masinga), Nimrod Mbai (Kitui East), Mwengi Mutuse (Kibwezi West), Yatta politician Anastacia Muendo, Maendeleo ya Wanawake Chairperson Rahab Muiu, and other grassroots leaders.
Earlier in Wote, Kindiki said he would reach out to Kalonzo for talks on the development of the region.
“I respect Kalonzo, who is my senior in law and is full of respect for all leaders. I will talk to him because what we want to see is the development of the region, like every other part of the country,” he said.
