Africa-Press – Kenya. Former world marathon record holder Wilson Kipsang is on course to recovery following a Monday evening accident that occurred in Kolol, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Speaking at his home on Tuesday, the 2012 Olympic Games marathon bronze medallist said he is recovering well after he was involved in a car accident for the second time.

“There is no cause for alarm. I am doing well here at home. I fought hard to control the car to safety and I am glad I survived together with my family members,” said Kipsang, a two-time London Marathon champion.

Kipsang, a former world marathon record holder (2:03:23), said the brake to his Toyota Landcruiser failed and he had to fight hard to avoid collision with an overtaking vehicle.

“We are lucky that we survived the accident. We picked minor injuries that were treated at Iten Referral Hospital. We are now recuperating at home in Muskut,” said Kipsang, who was in the vehicle alongside his wife and their two sons.

“I want to assure Kenyans and all my fans and friends around the world that I am well.” This was the second accident in four years, having been involved in another along the Eldoret-Iten Road in 2019 when his Toyota Prado hit a lorry. He escaped unhurt.
