Africa-Press – Kenya. Cheptigit Girls’ and St Michael Kipsombe were crowned Uasin Gishu County Secondary Schools Sports Association champions at Hill School, Eldoret on Sunday.

Cheptigit beat Ngoisa Girls 6-5 in the handball final to book a slot at next week’s Rift Valley region championships. Deborah Jepchumba was the star for the champions after scoring four times with Faith Jelangat and Joan Tarus adding one goal each.

Cheptigit head coach Eusila Kogo praised goalkeeper Damaris Jepkorir for a decent display. “Our goalkeeper was very strong between the posts. She saved many chances which inspired the rest of the players,” said Kogo.

He said they will immediately start training for the regional championships, where 14 counties are expected. Kipsombe retained their rugby 15s title following a 15-0 victory against debutantes Chebisaas Boys.

Kipsombe coach Timothy Natembeya said: “We have been targeting good results each time and our main aim is to reach the national as well as the East Africa championships. The county has not been shining but we want to break the jinx.”
