Africa-Press – Kenya. Former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has vowed never to betray President William Ruto again. The politician said he has decided to work with President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government for good without any conditions.
Kiraitu, who spoke during Ruto’s tour of Meru on Saturday, apologised to his people for misleading them in last year’s general elections by working with opposition chief Raila Odinga.
Kiraitu was a key linchpin in the Azimio coalition that lost to President Ruto in the August 9, 2022 polls. “I am here to confirm that I am ready to work with President Ruto to make sure his government becomes the most successful ever that Kenya has ever had,” Kiraitu said.
Kiraitu, who lost his bid to defend his Meru gubernatorial seat to Kawira Mwangaza through his Mbus party, asked for forgiveness. ” I am sorry I tried to drive you by the MBUS to somewhere but we got stuck, I am grateful that President Ruto has remembered me and came to my rescue,” he said.
The ex-Meru senator was on Friday appointed by the President as the chairperson of the National Oil Corporation for a period of three years. “You sent me home and sacked me from my job, I am happy that the President has come to my rescue,” he told the Meru voters.
“This time round I will stick with the President to help him so that he succeeds. I will not betray him.”
The politician called for the creation of the office of the Leader of Official Opposition in Parliament, saying Raila is angling for the post through protests.
“Please move with speed and establish that office so that someone can get a job,” he told National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa. President Ruto has asked Parliament to establish the office to ensure there is a strong opposition to check his government.
