Africa-Press – Kenya. Deputy County Commissioner John Kisang has sounded a warning to youth in Nairobi against being used by politicians to engage in violence and criminal activities as the country gears up for the 2027 General Election.

Kisang expressed concern that some politicians were exploiting young people to attack their rivals’ supporters in a bid to gain political mileage.

Speaking during a public baraza after distributing relief food to residents of Kayaba Village, Kisang said the government would not tolerate the formation of criminal gangs or politically instigated unrest.

“I want to warn the young people against allowing themselves to be used or misused by politicians to cause chaos. Youths must demand empowerment programmes that can uplift their lives instead of engaging in acts of violence,” said Kisang.

He emphasised that the government will not condone the emergence of criminal gangs or politically instigated violence in the run-up to the elections.

According to the administrator, security agencies are on high alert to ensure peace and stability in the area.

Kisang urged residents to uphold political tolerance and sobriety, stressing the importance of remaining peaceful and law-abiding regardless of political differences.

At the same time, he strongly condemned mob justice following a recent incident in which two people were killed after being stabbed on suspicion of engaging in criminal activities.

“We must desist from taking the law into our own hands. Any suspect apprehended should be handed over to the nearest police station for lawful action. Let’s pursue meaningful and lawful engagements,” he said.

On the ongoing drought situation affecting vulnerable families, Kisang said the government had stepped in to cushion residents through relief food distribution.

About 200 vulnerable beneficiaries from Kayaba Village, including the elderly, persons living with disabilities and other at-risk groups, received food supplies.

Each beneficiary was issued with four kilograms of white rice and four kilograms of beans to help sustain their households during the dry spell.

The DCC also issued a stern warning to individuals involved in illicit brew and drug trade, saying authorities would not relent in the crackdown.

“Chiefs and their assistants have firm instructions to ensure that those who engage in illicit brews and drugs are brought to book to face the law. Their days are numbered,” Kisang warned.

In addition, he called on residents to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA), terming the scheme a game-changer in the provision of accessible and affordable healthcare services.

“For us to benefit from accessible and affordable healthcare services, we must register with SHA,” he said, dismissing critics of the programme as either unregistered or misinformed.

Kisang further highlighted completed government projects in the area, including the installation of solar street lighting along the riparian corridor in Kayaba Village, aimed at enhancing security.

He also outlined plans to improve feeder roads within the village to boost accessibility.

On education, the administrator reiterated the government’s commitment to achieving 100 per cent transition to Grade 10.

He directed chiefs to ensure that all parents with children in Grade 9 enroll them in senior secondary schools.

He cited Nairobi South, Makongeni and Reuben schools among the senior learning institutions serving students within Starehe Sub-County.
