KRA Begins Mass Pin Deregistration With 66,269 Victims

Africa-PressKenya. Kenya Revenue Authority on Tuesday, June 8, issued a notice to Kenyans announcing the beginning of mass pin deregistration.

According to a Public Notice, KRA will on Thursday, June 10, deregister pin numbers for 66,269 individuals who have failed to honour VAT obligations.

The exercise will affect individuals who fail to file their VAT monthly returns as well as individuals who repeatedly file nil VAT returns.

The owners of the pins will see their VAT obligations deregistered and cancelled effective Thursday, June 10, 2021.

The process will be done following an earlier notice last month on May 5.

“Deregistration/Cancellation of Tax Obligations is in accordance with Section 36(5) of the VAT Act, 2013 and section 10(5) of the Tax Procedures Act, 2015,” read the statement.

However, the taxman has provided guidelines for individuals who wish to re-activate their VAT Obligations.

The taxpayer is mandated with the task of applying for re-activation to the commissioner through their respective tax service office. The application should indicate the reason for re-activation.

The taxpayer will be expected to provide any document in question by the Tax Service Office.

Individuals who have been filing nil VAT returns will be expected to demonstrate to the commissioner their need for VAT obligations.

Upon re-activation, the taxpayer will have to file missing VAT returns as well Nil VAT returns making sure they are up to date. They will also have to make payment of the outstanding VAT liability.

To avoid deregistration in the future, taxpayers are advised to comply with the set rules and guidelines.
