The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has moved to calm concerns among students over confusing messages displayed on the placement portal following the closure of the second revision window.
This is after students who previously received SMS notifications confirming they had secured placements were later shown a different status on the KUCCPS portal.
According to many students, the portal showed a “Not Yet Placed” under the current placement tab.
This contradicts earlier updates that indicated the affected students had already secured university placements.
Users sought clarification from KUCCPS, asking why the system appeared to indicate they had not yet been placed after completing the second revision process, even though they had secured a provisional placement during the main revision.
“Why does my portal, as of today, show this after the second revision, but I secured a provisional placement in the main revision?” one student asked.
In response, the placement body assured the affected students that there was no cause for alarm.
According to KUCCPS, it does not matter what the portal status says as long as you have already received an sms notification stating that you have secured a slot.
“If you have already secured a provisional placement, there is no cause for alarm. You will be informed of the exact programme and university in July 2026,” KUCCPS stated.
For students who recieved SMS notifying them they had secured a placement, the clarification means they should not be concerned over the status of their portal, as they will be placed by the agency.
The placement at universities is expected to be finalised by July this year to give students time to apply for education funding from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) before reporting in September.
The messages the students will be receiving in July will be from the institution they have been placed in, so as to allow for adequate preparations ahead of the reporting date.
It is important to note that if you are placed in a private university, you will only be eligible for the HELB loan. In contrast, those placed in public universities will be eligible for both the loan and scholarship, as clarified by the Universities Fund.
