Africa-Press – Kenya. The top security organ in Laikipia has called on area residents to maintain peace, as the country heads into a general election.

The call was made during a sensitisation meeting with community leaders at Mithuri AIPCA church.

The meeting was convened by the Caritas organisation of the Catholic mission and was chaired by Assistant County Commissioner Julius Nyaga.

“Participants at the meeting were drawn from Lonyek, Olmoran, Kirima, Sosian and Survey areas,” NPS said, as well as officers from KDF, NPS, KWS, NGAO and the Ministry of Education.

Representatives from different churches in the area also attended.

The Laikipia residents who also had the chance to raise their concerns were encourage by security officials to embrace community policing in the quest to maintain peace and also fighting crime.

“They listed irresponsible remarks by leaders, illegal meetings, human-wildlife conflict, misuse of youth for political expediency as concerns that required immediate attention.”

“In what they termed as more enriching, they requested for the active involvement of youth in peace programmes citing that they are more prone to abuse,” NPS added.

The area sub -County Police Commander Mr .Donald Sailor urged residents to live peacefully even as they prepare to vote in the upcoming elections.
