Africa-Press – Kenya. Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company issued a statement on Tuesday on the list of estates and key installations in Nairobi that are set to experience water disruption.
A partial shutdown of the Ngethu Water Treatment Plant is scheduled to take place from Thursday, October 12, to Friday, October 13, 2023.
The shutdown will facilitate the repair of a major leakage on the raw water pipeline between the Matara Raw Water Chamber and the Ngethu Water Treatment Plant.
Additionally, scheduled maintenance will be carried out at the Kiambu reservoir in preparation for the upcoming El Niño rains.
This maintenance is essential to prepare for the anticipated El Niño rain.
The affected areas will include the Central Business District, the University of Nairobi’s main campus, Coca-Cola Factory, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), EPZ-Athi River, Mlolongo area, Gatundu, and Kiambu towns.
Along Mombasa Road, South B, South C, and the surrounding neighbourhoods, including Embakasi Area, will also experience water shortages.
The shortage will also be experienced along Juja Road, Mlango Kubwa, the entirety of Mathare, Eastleigh Airforce Base, Huruma, Kariobangi, Pangani, and Eastleigh will also be affected.
Jogoo Road residents in Maringo, Buruburu, and the surrounding estates, as well as Bahati, will face water shortages.
Residents along Thika Road will experience water shortages affecting Kenya Breweries, Kenyatta University, Githurai, Zimmerman, Kahawa West, Kahawa Barracks, Kasarani, Mwiki, Kahawa Sukari, Kahawa Wendani, Brookside Dairies, Garden Estate, and Thome Estate.
Areas along Outer-ring Road, such as Baba Dogo, Dandora, Dandora KCC factory, Umoja Estate 1 and 2, Donholm, Fedha, Tassia, Avenue Park, and Nyayo Embakasi, will also experience water shortages.
Other areas along Kangundo Road set to face water shortages are Ruai, Kayole, Komarock estate, Mwiki, and Njiru.
Estates along Limuru Road, including Parklands, Ngara, Aga Khan Hospital, University of Nairobi – School of Law, City Park Area, Gigiri, United Nations – Gigiri, and Muthaiga, will be affected.
Adjacent areas along James Gichuru Road, Lang’ata Road, and Waiyaki Way, including Riverside, Westlands, Lavington, Kilimani, Kileleshwa, Madaraka, Karen, Lang’ata, and Kibra, will also experience water shortages.
Adjacent areas along Naivasha Road and Kikuyu Road, such as Kawangware, Riruta/Satellite, Uthiru, and Ndwaru Road, will also be affected.
“While every effort will be made to restore the water supply as soon as possible, we kindly request all customers in the affected areas to use water sparingly during the period of the interruption,” reads part of the notice.
They also added that the scheduled shutdown originally planned for October 5th did not take place due to unavoidable circumstances.
