Africa-Press – Kenya. Little known Chemolingot choir from Tiaty in Baringo was on Monday thrust into limelight after performing during the Jamhuri Day celebrations. The choir was part of the entertainers at Nyayo national stadium during the celebration presided over by President William Ruto.
The choir first caught the attention of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during an Interdenominational Church Service at the Kabarnet ASK grounds last month.
The performance made him invite the choir to the national event. “The choir can be ambassadors of Tiaty, showcasing the good side of it,” Gachagua said during the event.
He said the region’s reputation had been tainted by the one per cent of criminals who paraded around as bandits in the county. The choir, he added, would also be invited to State House later to entertain President Ruto’s guests.
Clad in white and green, the choir largely composed of women thrilled guests with their song “Mwimbieni Bwana nchi yote, tangazeni wokovu wake” which praises God. At one point, Gachagua, his wife Dorcas and Tiaty MP William Kamket could be seen happily singing to the tune while conversing with other guests.
