Africa-Press – Kenya. Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi on Saturday held a meeting with ODM leader Raila Odinga, after decamping from UDA.
Taking to Facebook, Maangi said, “Had a breakfast meeting with my Party Leader H. E. The Rt Hon. Raila Odinga at his Riat Home in Kisumu County this morning.”
Present were Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o, Siaya Deputy Governor James Okumbe and Raila’s brother and EALA MP Oburu Odinga.
Maangi had backed Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA for months, before going back to his ODM roots.
Maangi seeks to succeed his boss James Ongwae.
A suspected move by UDA to deny Maangi the ticket to run for governor is said to be the reason for his defection.
Maangi followed the footsteps of Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka and his nemesis and former ODM party branch chair Samuel Omwando.
The two defected to the Orange party.
Last month, a UDA official said the party was concerned about the defections.
