Africa-Press – Kenya. Cabinet Secretary for Education Ezekiel Machagu has directed all field officers of the Ministry of Education to report to their duty stations on all working days.
In a statement on Monday, the CS said the move was to assist parents with necessary preparations regarding the 2024 School Calendar.
At the same time, Machogu reminded parents and guardians of the school opening days come next year.
“It is instructive that Early Childhood Development, Primary and Secondary schools will open for commencement of the First Term studies on January 8, 2024, except for Form One students who will report to their new institutions on January 15, 2024,” he said.
As a result, the CS urged parents and guardians to embark on the task of preparing learners to ensure they are ready for the 2024 School Calendar.
Machogu at the same time urged parents and guardians to exercise utmost parental responsibility to appropriately guide their children during the festive season.
“Particularly, parents must caution their children against the dangers of drug and substance abuse that are most prevalent in some parts of the country,” he said.
Last week, the CS fired a warning shot at school principals over any plot to increase fees for secondary school learners.
He made it clear that Principals have no authority to increase fees.
Machogu said the tough economic times in the country are affecting many parents and as such, increasing school fees will be unfair to them.
“I wish to state that the boarding fees charged in public secondary schools will remain unchanged in 2024,” he said.
“If any monkey business is done anywhere, the information will come. Parents are undergoing difficult financial challenges. Unless there is express approval from my office, no fee increase should happen.”
