Mama Ida calls for dialogue to end ODM wrangles

Africa-Press – Kenya. Mama Ida Odinga has called on the leadership of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to embrace dialogue as the only way to solve challenges facing the party.

Speaking in Nairobi on Wednesday, Mama Ida said that other than his family, Raila Odinga loved the people and ODM.

She thanked the staff who worked under and served Raila for their dedication to service.

Ida said that in the time when the party is undergoing political turmoil, Raila would have called for dialogue to ensure existing issues are addressed amicably.

The wrangles have rocked the party barely three months after the passing of ODM leader Raila.

“Raila run ODM on the principle of constant consultation and always referring to the people. It is my wish that we can preserve the party in his honour as a matter of service to our country,” she said.

“I appeal to those Baba left in the leadership of the party to reflect deeply and sincerely on his dreams for the party and for our country.”

“Let us support the problems of the party by always asking ourselves, what would Baba do under these circumstances?. I guess your guess is as good as mine. I’m sure Baba would tell us, let us sit down and talk.”

The death of Raila Odinga has plunged the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) into turmoil, revealing two factions that threaten to fracture this once vibrant, cohesive national party.

This comes a day after Senate Minority Leader and Kilifi County Senator Stewart Madzayo called for a candid internal dialogue within the ODM party to address the ongoing disagreements that have disrupted the party.

Madzayo warned that failure to act could tarnish the party’s image, weaken its cohesion, and create space for intolerance and political violence.

“Unless urgent action is taken, we risk heading into 2027 with heightened tensions, intolerance and violence that could undermine free and fair elections,” he said.

Madzayo said the disputes threaten to erode the legacy of the late leader, whose vision and restraint kept the party united for over 20 years.
