Africa-Press – Kenya. A man accused of escaping prison detention was on Friday charged at a Kibera court.

Peter Mirogo Wanjiku was charged before resident magistrate Jaqueline Ojwang where he denied the charges.

The suspect is said to have committed the offence on September 15 at 1610hours at Nairobi West Prison where he was being held lawfully as per the law.

The suspect had been jailed by the court for the offence of possessing Cannabis Sativa contrary to the penal code.

Efforts to pursue him on the day he escaped were not successful.

But he was later arrested by another officer who was at the staff quarters but in civilian clothes.

They took him to Lang’ata police station where he was arraigned and charged with the offence.

In court, he denied the wrongdoing and was released on Sh20,000 with the surety of the same amount.
