Africa-Press – Kenya. Interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i has sent condolences to eleven families whose relatives were killed in a bandit attack in Turkana.

In a statement on Monday, the CS said a manhunt has been launched to arrest the perpetrators.

“Our heartfelt condolences to the family and relatives of the eleven people among them National Police Service officers and a chief who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty in Turkana,” he said in a tweet.

“The perpetrators and the masterminds of this dastardly act and other purveyors of banditry in the county and its neighbours are being pursued.”

On Saturday, 11 people were killed in a bandit attack in Kakiteiteu village in Turkana East sub-county.

The victims include eight police officers, a local chief and two civilians who succumbed to the injuries inflicted on them by the assailants.

The victims were ambushed as they pursued heavily armed bandits suspected to be from the neighbouring Baringo county.

Police have launched a multi-agency security operation in Turkana.

“A multi-agency security operation today has been launched in the area to arrest the perpetrators, recover the stolen animals and firearms and return normalcy to the area,” reads a statement by NPS.

President William Ruto directed security agencies to firmly deal with the perpetrators of the attack.

“After receiving a comprehensive report on the Turkana/Pokot incident that led to 10 security/administration officers losing their lives, I have instructed security agencies to deal firmly, decisively and conclusively with those involved. Cattle rustling will stop na sio tafadhali,” Ruto said.
