Matiang’i vows no money, no favors in Jubilee nominations

Africa-Press – Kenya. Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has assured Jubilee Party supporters that the upcoming nomination process will be “free, fair and transparent and straightforward.”

Speaking after a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting chaired by Party Leader and former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Matiang’i emphasised that candidates will be selected on popularity, not personal connections or financial influence.

“We in the Jubilee Party will have an open and transparent nomination process. Only the popular candidates will be given tickets. We will not take money from anybody, and you will not be nominated as a candidate because you are my friend or… that does not exist in this party,” Matiang’i said.

He added, “And tell anybody who seeks to contest anything, not to be deceived by anybody to give them money, thinking because they are friends they are going to help them. It is not going to work in Jubilee.”

The assurances come as the Jubilee Party announced a major reorganisation of its leadership structure aimed at consolidating the party ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The NEC meeting resulted in several key appointments intended to strengthen operational efficiency, compliance, and grassroots coordination.

Jeremiah Kioni was named Deputy Party Leader (Operations), placing him at the centre of the party’s drive to streamline activities from the local to the national level.

Kioni is also expected to lead Jubilee’s engagement and alliance-building with political and societal stakeholders.

Other appointments include Ole Kenta as Secretary General, with Zack Kinuthia as Deputy Secretary General. Yassin Noor Haji was named National Organising Secretary, and Vincent Mogaka Kimoki assumes the role of Chairperson.

Dan Mwangi will serve as Executive Director, while Kembi Gitura takes over as Director of Elections. Peter Kados was appointed Chair of the MCA Caucus, and Saitoti Torome will oversee public policy work at the Jubilee Foundation.

Jubilee Party officials said the reorganisation is designed to position the party as a credible national alternative capable of addressing the challenges facing Kenyans.

The party highlighted the context in which the NEC meeting was held, noting that many citizens are grappling with rising living costs and economic pressures amid what it described as a government that has “prioritized rhetoric over results.”

“The NEC resolved to strengthen the Jubilee Party’s leadership and organisational structures in preparation for the 2027 General Election,” the party said in a statement, adding that the changes aim to rebuild Jubilee as a disciplined and nationally rooted organisation grounded in structure, policy, and grassroots engagement.

The moves signal Jubilee’s determination to present a united front and reassure supporters of integrity, transparency, and commitment to democratic processes as it positions itself for the next electoral cycle.
