Africa-Press – Kenya. Moi Girls, Kamusinga, and Rangers are the winners of the 7th edition of the Kimilili Rangers annual tournament in Bungoma.

Kamusing won all their matches in the women’s category to lift the title during the two-day tournament at Amtalla Stadium in Kimilili, Bungoma county.

Kamusinga edged Legends 21-15 in the opening match before running over Nairobi 18-14 and Lugulu 19-9. They went on to beat Legends 11-6.

In the men’s category, Rangers survived a late scare to beat Legends 22-20 to lift the title. In the semis, Legends beat Lugulu 38-18 while Rangers had a narrow 23-19 win over Ingwe Handball Club.

Winners in the men’s category received Sh30, 000 while in the women’s category, the champions received Sh20, 000.

The aim of the tournament is to tap and nurture talent, according to the coordinator Blaise Shikuku.

“We also want to promote social empowerment to the youth and educate them about drug and substance abuse,” Shikuku revealed.

The tournament was sponsored by Musa Munyasia of Kenya Defence Forces and Patrick Wandili of Bungoma County.

At the same time, the annual Victoria Super League will start in March.

The first round will be played at Maseno University on March 12 and 13 with the second round taking place at Kisumu Polytechnic on April 9 and 10, according to the director, Robert Owino.

Owino said teams wishing to participate will pay a registration fee of Sh4, 000 by February 6. The league is open to schools, middle-level colleges, and clubs.
