Africa-Press – Kenya. Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is set to appear before the MPs in Parliament on Wednesday next week. In a statement on the House business committee commencing April 25, leader of the majority in the National Assembly Kimani Ichungwa said the prime cabinet secretary is set to answer questions from members.
“I wish to convey that the Prime Cabinet Secretary is scheduled to appear before the House in the afternoon of Wednesday 26th April 2023, to respond to the following questions,” said Ichungwa.
MPs amended section 25(A) of the standing orders to have the Cabinet Secretaries appear before the House. Cabinet secretaries Kindiki Kithure (Interior), Kipchumba Murkomen (Roads and Transport) and Soipan Tuya (Environment) have already appeared on the floor of the House.
Mudavadi, according to Ichung’wah, will respond to two questions from Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan regarding the government’s efforts to lower the cost of basic commodities and fuel.
He will also address the depreciation of the Kenya shilling against the other currencies. He will also shed light on the ongoing supply and distribution of relief food to different parts of the country “severely affected by famine and drought”.
In September 2022, President William Ruto stated that his government will give Parliament unfettered access to exercise the oversight role of the Executive.
During the debate to approve the motion, Ichung’wah stated that this is aimed at ensuring that the President Ruto administration is accountable to the common mwananchi on their mandate.
“I want to say that CSs must now be ready to come before the People’s representatives and answer questions with effect from 23rd March, and the speaker can exercise his discretion and allow as many follow-up questions as possible, they must come prepared,” Ichung’wah stated
