Murkomen Downplays Gachagua’s US Testimony Threat

Africa-Press – Kenya. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed plans by DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua to testify against the government of President William Ruto at the US Senate over alleged terror links.

Speaking on Monday during the ongoing Jukwaa La Usalama caucus in Narok, the CS announced that the only way the government would take Gachagua’s claims seriously is if he came and recorded a statement.

He also accused the former DP of being unpatriotic and championing rumour-mongering at the expense of national unity.

Murkomen further accused Gachagua of tarnishing Kenya’s image during his visit to the US, claiming he treated serious security concerns as a joke.

“If he has information, he should come home and submit it in writing to the DCI. That is the only way we know that the information that he has is true,” he said.

Adding that, “The decision to testify before the Senate of another country is laughable and does not warrant any strong grounds for his argument. Additionally, that shows his mental sanity since he wants to vie for a higher office.”

Murkomen also sought to clarify claims that he was interfering with the work of the NPS, stating that he was simply outlining what the law requires of the public.

“When I say that he should record a statement, I am not saying that NPS is not independent; I am just stating what is in the law,” he said.

On Sunday, Gachagua dared Interior Murkomen to arrest him once he returns to the country following his explosive claims linking Ruto to terrorism while in the U.S.

Speaking during a diaspora town hall engagement at Holy Names University, San Francisco, California, USA, Gachagua played down Murkomen’s calls to have him record a statement immediately after he landed in the country.

“I am not a leader who buys fear. I am not the one who has launched investigations against William Ruto. It is the Senate of the United States,” Gachagua said.

Adding that, “I have nothing useful to tell him (Murkomen). But if the Americans want me to assist in investigations, I would because that is where the investigations are.”
