The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) has warned that continued rainfall will persist across several counties until May 25.
In a weekly forecast update released by the weatherman on May 18, counties east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Embu, Meru, Laikipia, and Tharaka-Nithi, are expected to continue receiving intermittent rainfall throughout the coming days.
“Rainfall is expected to continue in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley in the latest forecast,” stated KMSA.
KMSA also listed Kericho, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Narok, Kisii, Nyamira, Bungoma, Kakamega, Busia, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot, and Elgeyo Marakwet among counties set for continued downpours this week, all in the Western part of the Rift Valley.
Residents in the rain-bound counties are expected to experience cloudy mornings followed by afternoon showers and thunderstorms, with some rain extending into the night as temperatures remain relatively cold in several parts of the country, as per the weatherman.
“Sunny intervals are expected in the mornings, though rain may occur in a few places. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few places, occasionally spreading to several places,” stated KMSA.
The weather agency also noted that sunny intervals are likely to break through during some mornings and afternoons, although isolated showers may still occur in several places before conditions clear temporarily later in the day.
In Nairobi and neighbouring counties, mornings are expected to remain cloudy before giving way to brief sunny periods, with afternoon showers forecast in a few areas as evenings turn partly cloudy and chilly.
Counties in the northwestern part of the country, such as Turkana and West Pokot, are expected to experience mainly sunny conditions during the day and partly cloudy nights, although occasional light morning rains are expected in isolated areas.
KMSA further projected that northeastern regions such as Wajir, Mandera, and Garissa will largely experience sunny intervals and dry daytime conditions, though some locations may record brief morning showers before skies gradually clear as the day progresses.
Residents living in Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties should also expect sunny intervals during the day, with isolated afternoon showers likely to develop in a few places later on.
At the Coast, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, and Tana River, residents are expected to experience warm sunny conditions during the day alongside occasional showers occurring mostly during mornings and nighttime hours.
