Africa-Press – Kenya. Nandi County is hosting a 70-member delegation from Gersthofen, Germany, for a two-day cultural and tourism exchange programme aimed at deepening ties in heritage, youth development and community collaboration.
The delegation, led by First Mayor Michael Wörle, arrived this week to strengthen the growing partnership between the two regions.
The exchange celebrates friendship, art and shared history, and seeks to explore opportunities in tourism and cultural cooperation.
The official ceremony was held at Koitalel Samoei University College and featured music, theatre and cultural performances.
The Gersthofen Youth Orchestra captivated guests with a symphonic performance, symbolising the unifying power of art and cross-cultural understanding. The visiting group was received with traditional Nandi hospitality.
Guests were also treated to The Last Spear of Nandi, a stage play performed by Kenyatta University students.
The production paid tribute to Koitalel arap Samoei, the renowned Nandi leader remembered for his resistance, resilience and defence of his people’s dignity.
His legacy remains a source of pride and unity for the Nandi community and Kenyans at large.
First Mayor Wörle expressed gratitude for the warm reception in Nandi, saying the visit reinforced the friendship between the two communities.
“We are truly honoured by the warm reception we have received in Nandi. This partnership is not only about cultural exchange but also about learning from one another—our values, traditions and shared vision for the future. We look forward to strengthening our cooperation and creating lasting memories with our friends here in Kenya,” he said.
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang welcomed the delegation and praised the partnership as a celebration of creativity and global friendship.
“We are proud to showcase the best of Nandi—our rich culture, our talented youth and our breathtaking tourism attractions. Through this partnership with Gersthofen, we continue to strengthen cultural ties while positioning Nandi as a leading destination for cultural and heritage tourism in Kenya,” Sang said.
During the visit, the delegation will tour some of Nandi’s scenic and historical sites, including Kapsimotwo Gardens, known for its panoramic views and lush landscapes, and Sheu Morobi, a cultural heritage site with deep ancestral significance to the Nandi people.
The visit is part of the Tembea Nandi initiative, which promotes both domestic and international tourism by showcasing the county’s diverse attractions, including hills, waterfalls and cultural experiences.
The exchange programme underscores the role of culture and tourism in fostering global understanding, friendship and sustainable development.
It also marks a significant milestone in the growing partnership between the two regions, aimed at deepening cultural understanding and exploring opportunities for collaboration in tourism, youth development, and community exchange.
