New Twist in Dutch Tycoon Case as Wife Recants Statement

Africa-PressKenya. The wife of the murdered Dutch national Herman Rouwenhorst has recanted her statement after police poked holes in her earlier version of events.

In the new statement the wife, Riziki Cherono, furnished the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday, June 8, she disclosed that she kidnapped by two men while in her bedroom.

She was then ordered to drive the two masked men towards Serena Area and all through, she had her hands tied to the steering wheel.

She also noted that the thugs came armed with pistols and that her late husband had been drinking before he was killed.

In a Saturday, June 5 interrogation, Cherono had claimed that she was bundled into the car and the thugs drove her to Serena area where they abandoned her. She claimed that they were armed with blunt objects.

She had also noted that she was untied by well-wishers.

“I learnt that the attackers had killed my husband on Friday morning when well-wishers untied me from the steering wheel,” she stated at the time.

After taking her statement at the time, the DCI sleuths, indicated that the first statement Cherono issued was not adding up, stating that it needed some clarification.

Rouwenhorst and his watchman were found murdered in his apartment. His hands and legs had been tied and his mouth gagged.

The two were taken to the Pandya Hospital Mortuary awaiting a postmortem.

The Dutch national is a multi-millionaire who owned properties in Utange, Bamburi, Mitamboni and Mtwapa areas. He reportedly owned several entertainment joints in Mombasa and Kilifi counties.

DCI officers also confirmed that the thugs were probably individuals well known to the victims.
