Omondi Sets Demanding Tone for Posta Rangers

Africa-Press – Kenya. Collins “Korea” Omondi has signaled a no-nonsense shift in attitude at Posta Rangers as he prepares to lead the side for the first time in Monday’s Kenyan Premier League clash against Bidco United at Kasarani Annexe.

Installed as interim head coach after the departure of Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo, Omondi cut a firm, deliberate figure as he set out his expectations for a squad he insists must rediscover its competitive edge.

Omondi, previously Omollo’s long-serving assistant, said Rangers cannot afford excuses after an unsettled week. “The responsibility is here now, and we have to meet it head-on,” he said. “This team has enough quality to respond immediately. Monday is our first chance to show that clarity, steel and ambition.”

He made it clear that Bidco present a tough assignment, but warned that Rangers have no intention of retreating into caution. “They are disciplined and well-structured, but we must impose ourselves,” he said. “We need control, urgency and decisiveness in the final third. The objective is obvious: we are going out to win.”

Training has intensified since his appointment, with Omondi suggesting he has already seen signs of a sharper posture from his players. “We have tuned the details — pressing, shape and transitions,” he said. “If the players carry that work onto the pitch, we will give ourselves a proper chance. The standard has been set.”

Posta Rangers confirmed Omollo’s release on Friday, noting that he has been placed on a 30-day terminal leave before his contract ends on December 31.

The club appointed Omondi as interim coach, supported by assistants Jaffer Salim and Joseph Mbugi, both CAF B licence holders.

The announcement was delivered during a performance review briefing attended by players and staff, with the leadership emphasising stability during the transition.

Omondi urged the squad to embrace the shift in direction rather than dwell on the disruption.

“Changes are part of football,” he said. “What matters is how we respond. The players have to stay locked in and committed to the work in front of us.”

Across the league, a full schedule awaits supporters over three days.

Saturday’s proceedings begin in Awendo, where Mara Sugar hosts Tusker FC at the Green Stadium from 14:00. Sofapaka meet APS Bomet at Dandora Stadium at 16:00 in a televised match.

Sunday brings a trio of fixtures kicking off at 14:00: Kakamega Homeboyz face KCB at Bukhungu Stadium, while Ulinzi Stars welcome Bandari at Ulinzi Sports Complex — a televised tie.

At 15:00, Murang’a SEAL meet Kariobangi Sharks at the SportPesa Arena, also live on TV. Kenya Police will then host Shabana at Police Sacco Stadium from 16:00.

Monday’s attention centres on Kasarani Annexe, where Posta Rangers confront Bidco United at 16:00 in Omondi’s debut. Earlier at 15:00, Nairobi United take on Mathare United at the same venue.

For Omondi, the task is immediate and unequivocal. “We know precisely what is required. It is up to us to prepare properly and deliver a performance that reflects the standards this club expects,” he said.
