Africa-Press – Kenya. One of Kenya’s iconic hotels, Fairmont Mt Kenya Safari Club, has reopened its door for business more than 2 years after its closure that was caused by the pandemic.
The hotel, located on the foot of Mt. Kenya, has opened its doors with a renewed focus on conservation of forest cover surrounding the mountain.
It offers luxury accommodation with the main structure reflecting the 1950’s colonial architecture with a modern twist.
It had sent home all its 148 employees in the wake of the pandemic but the management noted that most of its employees got other jobs within related establishments.
The luxurious establishment is now operating with 125 staff including some former employees.
The Mt Kenya Safari Club is set in 100 acres of landscaped gardens with fantastic mountain views. The hotel has an excellent golf course, an on-site animal orphanage and other recreational facilities.
In 2021, a report by Trustpilot, a company trusted by consumers to connect hotels and clients and rate services – ranked Mt Kenya Safari Club among the top 10 hotels in Kenya.
Fairmont Hotels and Resorts Country Manager Mehdi Morad noted that the opening had been received well as they had so far received a good number of visitors, especially from the East Africa region.
Fairmount is a global brand that operates The Norfolk, Fairmont, Mara Safari Club, and Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club among others.
“We are looking forward to a very good season, people have never been eager, the hotel business is still profitable and we are now channelling more energy towards conservation,” Morad stated.
The facility plans to allow its visitors to pay an additional fee which will be channelled into its non-profit conservancy, the Mt. Kenya Wildlife Conservancy.
Morad added that everything in the hotel had been handcrafted in Kenya.
The reopening of Fairmont Mont Kenya Safari Club comes just ten months after the reopening of Fairmont Mara Safari club and two months after the reopening of Fairmont the Norfolk Hotel.
