Africa-Press – Kenya. Kenya Pipeline head Paul Gitau believes winning the inaugural Eldoret City Open augurs well with their quest to reclaim the Kenya Volleyball Federation national title.
Pipeline, four-time Africa Club champions beat Kenya Prisons in straights to win the Eldoret tournament as Kenya Defence Forces won the men’s title at the Eldoret Sports Club in Uasin Gishu County on Sunday.
KPC beat Prisons 25-21, 26-24 and 25-15. Gitau said: “The winning streak for us has just began here in Eldoret and we want to do well after recruiting many players.”
In a tournament played on a round robin format, the KPC won all their matches in the two-day event that served off on Saturday. In the first match, they beat Post Bank and KDF in straight sets of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-16 and 25-17, 25-17 and 25-20 respectively.
The losing finalists were straight sets winners against Post Bank (25-14, 25-11 and 25-16) and KDF (27-25, 25-17 and 25-20). In men’s edition, KDF beat Prisons 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 17-25 and 25-15).
KDF also beat Rift Valley Prisons 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, and 25-17) and prevailed 25-19, 25-17 and 25-17 against Uganda’s Stormers. Prisons were 3-0 (25-16, 25-16 and 25-10) winners against Stormers and hit Rift Valley Prisons 22-25, 25-16, 25-17 and 25-21.
