Africa-Press – Kenya. Motorists in Nairobi have been alerted to temporary road closures and traffic diversions from Saturday night until Sunday afternoon.
In a notice released on Saturday evening, the National Police Service (NPS) announced that these closures and diversions are to facilitate the Standard Chartered Marathon, which is scheduled to take place on October 26.
According to the police, these measures would take effect at midnight on Saturday October 25 and remain in place until 2 pm on Sunday October 26.
“To ensure public safety and the smooth management of the 2025 Standard Chartered Marathon, the National Police Service notifies the public of temporary road closures and traffic diversions in Nairobi. This will be in effect from midnight on Saturday, 25th October 2025, until 2:00 pm on Sunday, 26th October 2025,” part of the statement read.
The main road that will be affected is the Southern Bypass, which will be closed from the Ole Sereni Interchange on Mombasa Road, to Kikuyu Town.
The police have listed alternative routes for motorists to use during the temporary closure.
From Mombasa Road to Kikuyu, motorists will now proceed to Uhuru Highway into Waiyaki Way before joining the Southern bypass at Gitaru interchange.
Those travelling from Dagoretti South to Kikuyu will instead use Dagoretti Road while motorists moving between Dagoretti South and Lang’ata will use Lang’ata Road through Karen.
According to the police, stern action will be taken against motorists who fail to follow the guidance of officers stationed along the affected routes.
“All motorists are urged to be patient, strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations, and follow the guidance of officers stationed along the affected routes. Stern action will be taken against anyone found violating traffic rules,” the statement added.
